Reasons To Take Dance Classes

Learning to dance delivers both physical and emotional benefits. As part of the process of mastering the art of dance, as instructed by New Vision Dance Center, our staff makes sure each student has a full warm-up and understands the importance of correct body alignment. We help students develop proper technique starting with the warm-up and going all the way through the choreography for each type of dance learned.

If you have a child who wants to take dance, you can choose from lessons for a variety of ages and levels at our Hillsboro, Oregon, dance studio. Our classes are grouped according to age and ability level to ensure each dancer receives the best instruction possible. For more information about the times and types of classes available, contact our caring staff at New Vision Dance Center (NVDC).

Teaches Responsibility

Students learn that by working together they create something — a performance — and that each student relies on the others in order for the performance to be successful. Other concepts learned include:

  • Respect for authority
  • Discipline
  • Skill development

Early in the process of learning dance, children learn about responding to authority figures who aren’t their parents in a setting that’s safe and supportive. That’s followed by learning about the results of discipline because repetition and dedication lead to the development of improved skills.

Development of Strength

Increasing strength and physical fitness are rewards for learning dance. Students develop increased body awareness at an early age as they learn to move to the sound of the music and in unison with the other dancers. Other benefits include:

  • Better physical fitness
  • Increased stamina
  • Core strength

Stamina increases quickly for students taking our dance lessons by performing and rehearsing specific movements repeatedly while practicing and performing dances. Dancing also gives energetic children a way to utilize that energy, and in turn, find a bit of calm as their excess energy is used in a positive manner that’s encouraging and fun.

Increased Flexibility

In addition to increased physical strength, increased flexibility is a benefit of taking dance classes. Proper warm-ups and using controlled stretching through each movement increases flexibility for dancers. This also results in:

  • Increased mobility
  • Better range of motion
  • Better balance
  • Better posture

Our classes begin by helping students learn to enjoy dance movements through the use of props, like parachutes and butterfly nets. The classes then advance and delve into different dance techniques after our students have learned the necessary skills.

Better Coordination

We incorporate an age-appropriate element of fun in our classes, which provides children the opportunity to enjoy the experience of taking dance classes while gaining other benefits, such as:

  • Improved musicality
  • Enhanced reflexes
  • A means of self-expression

Studying dance helps students experience music in a way that makes them part of the song. Dancing as part of a group, performing the same movements, improves reflexes as the dancers learn to move in unison on the same music. Dance is also a way for dancers to express themselves.

Increased Self-Confidence

In addition to increased physical strength, increased flexibility is a benefit of taking dance classes. Proper warm-ups and using controlled stretching through each movement increases flexibility for dancers. This also results in:

  • Increased mobility

  • Better balance
