Benefits of Dance
At NVDC, our goal is to promote social, physical, emotional and intellectual growth for each child who enters one of our programs. Our caring and experienced instructors are happy to share their love of dance and to help dancers learn a new skill to help increase their confidence.
Regardless of the type of dance your child wants to learn, dance classes help improve balance and coordination. They can also help improve muscle tone, strength and posture. Because your child will have an outlet for their energy, they may also have an increased attention span that allows them to do better in school.
Other benefits of dance include:
- Social, emotional and cognitive growth
- Heightened cognitive abilities and memory skills
- Enhanced sensory awareness
Types Of Dance And Their Benefits
Our Twinkle Stars and Twinkle Babies start out as young as 18 months old and go to the age of 3. In both classes, dancers learn ballet, tap and creative movement to help develop strength, flexibility and coordination.
Hip Hop classes start at the age of 4 and go through Teens. The beginner class is ideal for children who have a lot of energy. It helps children build stamina and makes it possible for them to explore a variety of rhythm isolations while challenging their memory with choreographed steps.
At the age of 3, we offer a combined Ballet and Tap class, to allow dancers to experience multiple styles. These classes encourage a child’s expression while teaching rhythm and basic manners, like taking turns. They can help children with memory skills, flexibility and control.
Jazz requires flexibility, control and technique, and is an excellent form of exercise. It is an excellent way to expend energy and provides a way for both children and teens to express themselves, while increasing their confidence and self-esteem.
Preparing For A Career In Dance
NVDC is home to the New Vision Dance Company, which is a group of intermediate to advanced dancers who train together twice a week in Ballet, Jazz, Tap and Hip Hop. Company dancers have the opportunity to take part in productions and perform throughout the community, as well as taking training trips to perform and experience dance across the country. Many NVDC students have received dance scholarships and have continued to dance professionally.
